KEF announces KC92, Kube MIE subwoofers

  • From KEF this week comes news of four new Kube subwoofers. The Kube MIE range features 8″, 10″, 12″ and 15″ models, each with a single long-throw front-firing driver juiced by 300 Watt Class D amplifiers. The cabinets are sealed for easier room placement and similar to the KC62, all new Kube MIE models feature placement-dependent EQ settings, Musical Integrity Engine system oversight and KW1 wireless kit compatibility for use with KEF’s LS60 Wireless, LS50 Wireless II and LSX II (LT) streaming active loudspeakers.

However, also from KEF this week comes news of the KC92 subwoofer that takes the KC62’s platform of side-firing force-cancelling drivers, P-Flex driver surrounds, twin 500 Watt Class D amplifiers, Musical Integrity Engine (MIE) system oversight, line-level and speaker inputs (via a Molex connector), line-level output with high-pass filter settings, KW1 wireless compatibility and room placement modes but adds 2.5″ to each driver’s diameter for a 9″ subwoofer that reportedly mines bass down to 11Hz (but at an undisclosed SPL).

Note: “The voice coils are not sleeved in the KC92 (i.e. no Uni-Core driver) because we don’t need to do it for that larger size product.” That extra informational morsel comes from KEF’s VP of Technology, Jack Oclee-Brown.
