Pro-Ject readies super-affordable standmount speakers

  • The world of affordable standmount loudspeakers took a step forward this week with the announcement of two tiny two-ways from Pro-Ject.

The Speaker Box 3E puts a 0.75โ€ silk dome tweeter and a 3″ fibreglass mid/bass driver into a 160 x 106 x 152mm MDF cabinet for a nominal impedance of 4 Ohms and 85dB sensitivity. Assisted by a rear-firing port, bass extension is rated by Pro-Ject down to 89Hz: that means a subwoofer will be required when placing the 3E on stands in a room instead of sitting them on a desktop. Yours for โ‚ฌ199/pair in a black or white finish. Add โ‚ฌ30 for the Walnut finish.

The Speaker Box 3E Carbon takes the same 2-way bass-reflex platform but enlarges the MDF cabinet (to 175 x 119 x 152mm), improves its overall physical fit n’ finish and upgrades the 3″ mid/bass driver to carbon fibre. The result is a speaker with a nominal impedance of 4 Ohms, 85dB sensitivity where bass mining reaches 83Hz. Yours for โ‚ฌ299/pair in black or white. Add โ‚ฌ50 for the Walnut finish.
